Large Herd Operators to Discuss Milk Marketing Options
Mark your calendar for Thursday, Sept. 15th
The Ontario Large Herd Operator Group has put together a powerful array of speakers to talk and debate the issue of "Finding the Balance Between Price and Volume" in marketing raw milk in Canada. The premise underlying this discussion is that a portion of the Canadian market for dairy ingredients is already supplied by imports, and that this portion is increasing. Specific categories of products include those with less than 50% dairy content, those for which there are no tariffs defined and products for which world price plus tariffs fall below the Canadian price. Some producers feel blending in lower priced products into the current price would expand markets while other producers feel pursuing low value markets which return less than the current cost of production is not economically justifiable.
Speakers for the evening of Sept 15th at the Quality Inn in Woodstock are: Peter Gould, chairman of DFO, Al Mussel of the George Morris Centre, Tom Kane, Ontario Dairy Council, and Guylaine Gosselin, Federation Des Producteurs de Lait du Quebec. Debate and opinions are also welcomed from the floor.
