Farmers seeking certification under the Nutrient Management Regulation can continue to prepare a 3rd Edition EFP and write a quiz instead of attending an Introduction to Nutrient Management Course to fulfill their training requirements.
This equivalency option is extended until January 1, 2009. Farmers must complete an EFP workshop, receive a peer reviewed deemed appropriate EFP letter from their local Peer Review Committee and complete a written quiz.
In addition to this equivalency, farmers must attend a Regulations and Protocol Course or complete the On Line Version of the course to obtain their Agricultural Operations Planning Certificate (AOPC). This certificate is required by farmer operators who want to prepare their own Nutrient Management Strategy or Plan. AOPC certificates are valid for five years.
Farm operators who want more information on Nutrient Management courses available through the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, including their schedules, can check the website at http://www.omafra.gov.on.ca/english/nm/cert/training.htm or call the Nutrient Management Information Line at 1-866-242-4460.
