CORNWALL-The Ontario Ministry of the Environment (MOE) has released the proposed assessment report regulation, which defines the requirements for the preparation of technical studies under the Clean Water Act.
In this region, the Raisin-South Nation Source Protection Committee (SPC) is responsible for overseeing this work.
The regulation prescribes the studies required to identify any significant threats or risks to municipal drinking water in both watersheds.
The proposed regulation is available for public review and comment for 45 days through a posting on the provincial Environmental Bill of Rights Registry (EBR posting #010-3873).
The comment period ends August 4, 2008.
You can view the regulation at http://www.ebr.gov.on.ca/ERS-WEBExternal/searchNotice.do?menuIndex=1 2&searchType=splash
All comments will be assessed and the means to address concerns will be considered.
MOE hopes to deliver the final regulation to Cabinet for approval no later than October 2008.
