  South Mountain Fair Farm Presentation and Display Competition

The Mountain Township Agricultural Society hopes to build on the success of the first Farm Presentation and Display Competition. This year the South Mountain Fair dates are August 19 to 22.

For 1999 a Junior Division has been added for young people ages 12 to 15. The top prize in this division will be $250. The senior division will be for young people ages 16 to 30 will have a top prize of $1000.

South Mountain Fair has organized this competition to develop future agricultural leaders and to promote the importance and variety of agriculture production in this region.

Four information meetings have been organized to answer potential participants questions on the competition and to inform participants about some of the area associated with the competition. The dates are Mon., May 17, Wed., May 19, Tue., May 25 and Thurs.,May 27. Each meeting starts at 7:30 pm at the South Mountain Agricultural Hall and should take about two hours.

The Junior division will be a one day event on Fri., Aug. 20. Competitors will be scored equally (25%) on the following four areas: Display area (10' x 10' to set up an exhibit to highlight the farm they represent); Display Presentation (10 to 15 minute oral presentation outlining their farm operation); Consistency of Exhibit (ability of participants to link their display to their oral presentation); Interaction with the Public (ability to communicate with the passing public). Director for this division is Koren Brown.

The Senior division will be a two day competition on Sat., Aug. 21 and Sun., Aug. 22. Competitors will be scored equally (33%) on the following three area: Oral Presentation (a 10 to 15 minute presentation outlining the farm operation followed by 10 minutes of questions from the audience); Display area (competitors will be allocated space in the cattle barn to set up a visual display to highlight the farm they represent. Livestock farms will require at least one live animal in their display); Interaction with the Public (ability to communicate with the passing visitors at the fair).
