If you are interested in new markets for your meat, produce, or processed agri-food products then this is the seminar for you so keep January 16, 2008 open. A number of partners have come together to bring agri-food producers in Prince Edward, Hastings, Lennox & Addington and Northumberland counties a top notch agenda that is guaranteed to generate ideas and practical opportunities.
The keynote speaker will be Martin Gooch, a Senior Research Associate with the George Morris Centre. Martin has done extensive work in local food marketing and value-chains and co-authored a study investigating market expansion for farm products and processed products from the area.
Participants will then be able to learn from three marketing networks currently engaged in marketing and distributing farm products to the Ontario marketplace.
Mark Trealout will tell you about his work with the Kawartha Ecological Growers, a joint marketing alliance that distributes Kawartha grown food products in Toronto. Christina Anderman will talk about Ottawa Valley Foods, a marketing network for locally grown/processed foods for the mutual benefit of producers and consumers members. The ultimate aim is to create a local food co-op whereby consumers can connect with and buy from local food producers. Mike Schreiner represents Local Foods Plus, an award winning non-profit organization committed to building and fostering local sustainable food systems by certifying farmers and processors and linking them with local purchasers.
Dan Taylor will introduce the Prince Edward Agriculture Initiative, which despite its name is open to any producer in the area. It is an initiative that will provide producers with collective marketing and distribution of their products to expand and solidify markets. It is a new venture that is very exciting.
Also on the agenda is a panel discussion with lots of opportunity for questions and dialogue with the presenters.
