Organizers insist agriculture isn’t being left behind in Renfrew County’s 13th annual Rural Ramble coming up Sept. 29-30.
While the 2007 RR will feature a record 29 stops, only six of them are strictly agricultural. When it originated, the event was all about agriculture.
Over the years, says Melissa Johnston of the Ottawa Valley Tourism Association, the Ramble has branched out to reflect rural living and other rural economic activities, as well as agriculture.
While there are only six farm stops, most represent distinct commodities and several producers, Johnston said.
"Many farmers found it difficult to open up their operations to 1,000 visitors. It’s more manageable for them to group together."
Most of the stops are at restaurants, museums and artists’ studios. Calabogie Peaks Resort, Bonnechere Caves, and even Valley Heritage Radio in Renfrew are on the tour.
Available at several locations, adult admission bracelets sell for $10. Some 3,000 visitors are expected at this year’s RR. Details are available at www.ottawavalley.org.
