Eastern Ontario Beef Day – Saturday, March 11, 2006

County Cattlemen's Associations in eight eastern Ontario counties (Leeds to Quebec border), assisted by OMAFRA, have organized an Eastern Ontario Beef Day for Saturday, March 11, 2006 at the Winchester Arena (Community Centre). This will be the fifth joint Beef Day sponsored by the Associations. The first four events were very popular with about 160 - 200 local cattlemen attending each.

For 2006 three speakers will be featured. Stan Eby, President of the Canadian Cattlemen’s Association, will give the keynote address – an outline of Running a National Commodity Organization in difficult times. The second speaker will be Dr. D. H. "Denny" Crews, Research Scientist, Beef Quantitative Genomics at Agriculture and AgriFood Canada’s Lethbridge Research Station. Denny will explore the genetic ties between feedlot performance and the cow herd. The third presentation will be by well-known Quebec cattleman, Gib Drury, President, Quebec Farmers’ Association and owner of a 600-head beef farm including 250 Cow-Calf pairs plus a backgrounding operation. Gib will explain the Quebec Income Stabilization Program. There will be adequate time for questions and discussion following each speaker.

Check-in and coffee begin at 9:00 a.m. The program runs from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and includes lunch for those that register in advance. Several companies and organizations will have on-site displays throughout the day

Registration fee is $15.00. Those registering and PAYING in advance by February 28, 2006 to their local County Cattlemen's Association will have lunch included, but there will be no limit on attendance (subject to the capacity of the facilities). Cattlemen not knowing a local county contact may call Ron Wilson at (613) 543-2784 or by E-mail at r.d.wilson@sympatico.ca
