Do you have farm-gate sales of fruit, vegetables, eggs, dairy, meat, honey, syrup, etc.? Do you have a community shared agriculture project?
Make sure you're part of the new Ottawa Buy Local Guide coming out this May.
There is no cost to you -- the Ottawa Food Security Council (OFSC), with funding from the City of Ottawa and the Trillium Foundation is creating, printing and distributing thousands of copies of a Buy Local Guide throughout Ottawa, highlighting local farms like yours, how to get to you, what you sell, and when you are open. The Guide will be produced in both French and English.
There will be a print Guide that will highlight farms within the City of Ottawa limits, and there will be a web-based Guide that will include these farms and highlight others surrounding Ottawa.
To be part of the Guide or for more information, please contact the OFSC at 236-9300, x301. The initial deadline is April 06, 2005 for the printed version but if you miss that one you may still be able to get on the web listing. Please call and leave us your contact information. We will contact you to confirm what information you would like in the Guide.
Why are we doing this?
The OFSC is working on a Grow Local/Buy Local Campaign which aims at increasing access to produce for everyone living in the City, at the same time as increasing business for our local farmers/growers. This Guide is one of the tools we would like to use. We are also interested in finding ways to bring more local produce into the City via retailers, easier access to markets, possibly developing a 'Buy Local ' label that could be used by local farmers, etc.
What are your ideas? What would work for you?
We would like to hear from you! Please contact us at the above number.
