Fall tradition returns to Metcalfe Sept. 30 - Oct. 3

Where can you go to see an exciting midway, livestock shows, a demolition derby, snowmobile drag races, a craft fair, daily live entertainment and a rodeo - all in one location? The Metcalfe Fair, of course! The 143-year-old fall tradition in our community promises to entertain and thrill the whole family with its wide variety of shows and exhibits, scheduled for Sept. 30 to Oct. 3.

The fair gets off to a roaring start on Thurs., Sept. 30 at 7:30pm with the non-stop action and thrills of the demolition derby. Admission on Thursday night is $2 for children and under, and $5 for all others.

Friday features special entertainment for seniors, as well as an afternoon Children's Show featuring pet shows, decorated bike competition, sack race, 3-legged race, and kids' pedal pull. The Barn Door exhibit located in the AgriView building presents entertaining and informative shows on modern agricultural practices. Local 4-H members participate in their Club achievement day and County Championship Show throughout the day.

Friday evening is action packed with "Catch a Rising Star" talent competition upstairs in the community centre, and D.W. James in the entertainment centre. A new and exciting attraction is the "Bull-o-Rama" in the arena, featuring bull riding and other rodeo events.

On Saturday 4-H members from across eastern Ontario and western Quebec strut their stuff in the Regional Championship Show, followed in the evening the Steer and Lamb Auction in the AgriView building. The annual step-dancing competition is featured in the Community Centre. Bobby Lalonde will have you two-stepping till the wee hours in the entertainment centre.

The fourth annual Snowmobile Drags at noon on Sunday provides plenty of high-decibel excitement. Shania Twin and Printer's Alley will be on hand for musical entertainment. The ever-popular horse pull will take place in front of the Grandstand at 12:30. Fall fashions are on display at the fashion show in the community centre at 1pm.

Daily attractions include Robertson's Midway; Kidzland; Craft Fair at the high school; antique equipment shows; cattle, horse and sheep shows; Life of Reilly petting farm; exhibits of homecrafts; culinary arts; flowers and junior work (Family Pavilion); the produce division in the Agricultural Hall; the Barn Door educational exhibits; and delicious hot meals by Waterfall Catering in the Lions Den.

Admission to the grounds is $5 for adults, $3 for youths 13-18, and children 12 and under are admitted free.

There's so much to see and do at the Metcalfe Fair, so come and enjoy and good times, Sept. 30 - Oct. 3. See you there!
