  Ontario wheat board news

Wheat harvest is well under way in Ontario. Prices have been plummeting for the crop over the last bit because world buyers are not being very aggressive in making purchases. Buyers have been waiting for quality reports on this years crop. The lower market values are reflected in the initial board payments. Initial payments are a down payment to producers on the price of the crop guaranteed by the Federal Government. The payment is approximately 60% of the final payment projection net of marketing costs. The Wheat Board is working hard to improve the marketing conditions for wheat. Please stay in touch with the Board and read any correspondence that is sent to producers.

1999 Initial Payments are:

Pool A (basis grade #2, Canada Eastern White Wheat) -- $84 per tonne less $1 per tonne licence fee.

Pool B (basis grade #2, Canada Eastern Red Wheat, hard red winter varieties) -- $87 per tonne less $1 per tonne licence fee. Protein payments to producers begin at $5 per tonne for 11%with an additional $1 per tonne for each 1/10th increment to a maximum of $15 per tonne at 12% protein.

Pool C (basis grade #2 Canada Eastern Red Wheat for designated spring varieties AC Barrie, AC Brio, AC Domain, AC Taber, CDC Teal, Celtic, Columbus, Katepwa, Neepawa, Pacific, Roblin, AC Taho) -- $98 per tonne less $1 per tonne for licence fee. Protein payments are $10 per tonne for 12 to 12.4% and $18 per tonne for over 12.5%.

Pool D (basis grade #2 Canada Eastern Red Wheat spring varieties not designated) -- $80 per tonne less $1 per tonne licence fee. Protein payments are the same as listed in Pool C.

Pool E (basis grade #2 Canada Easter Red Wheat soft red winter varieties) -- $80 per tonne less $1 per tonne licence fee.
